What is Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS)?

FCS stands for Family and Consumer Sciences Extension. FCS programming focus on building assets of individuals and families to address problems faced across the lifespan. Family and Consumer Sciences Extension emphasizes well-being with a focus on human development, parenting, resource management, nutrition, health and leadership development.

At the community level, FCS Extension prepares individuals for community and economic development and activity. Professionals in Family and Consumer Sciences Extension provide the tools to help individuals and families to develop resources for strengthening families and building community for an ever changing society.

Join us on April 28th, 2026 at 10 am for an international experience and meal here at the Spencer County Extension Office. Beth Maxedon will be presenting about her recent trip to England and Scotland and cooking meals from both countries. Seating will be limited, please RSVP by April 21 by calling (502) 477-2217.

Call for Officers
The Spencer County Homemaker Council is currently looking for two individuals to fill officer roles starting in the new program year. Each officer term is for two years. 

Secretary - their duties include taking minutes at council meetings and sending out the minutes to the Council members. 
First Vice President - their duties include attending 3 -4 council meetings per year for 2 years before taking over the role of President for the following term (2 years). As President, they will chair the council meeting, and will need to attend at least 3 meetings of the Louisville Area Homemaker Council.
